SOS Children's Villages
SOS Children's Villages are unique places of refuge and true homes to thousands of children around the world.
I first discovered this group when viewing a moving documentary called "There Brother's Keepers", by Bullfrog Films. The documentary followed the lives of 3 "families" of children, all left to fend for themselves after loosing their respective parents to AIDS.
Each of the 3 "households" was headed by a child age 12. Each was caring for his many brothers and sisters much younger. It was a heart wrenching reality check for anyone as fortunate as I am. In the documentary there is a very brief mention of SOS, so I googled them and was surprised to learn about their methods and mission. I was hooked immediately and have sponsored 6 SOS children ever since: Three in Chad North Africa, and three in Nicaragua.
In August of 2008, when Chuck and I were beginning to do our research for our own foundation, we arranged to spend a day in an SOS village in Quito Ecuador. It was a wonderful experience for both Chuck and I and our 3 children.
Please check out the SOS website. This is a wonderful place to put some "disposable income" if you have the means. Your money is well spent. Chuck and I can personally vouch for the amazing environment that they provide for orphans around the world.
